[personal profile] elegantstupidity
Hi there! I absolutely love the premise of this exchange, and would honestly be so excited to get any kind of unconventional gift for any of these canons/characters. I'm very easy to please, so don't feel as if research is at all necessary, but if you want to poke around, my AO3 pseud is [archiveofourown.org profile] elegantstupidity, I'm on tumblr as [tumblr.com profile] megaphonemonday, and all my past exchange letters are here on dreamwidth. Hopefully, though, this letter has everything you need to create your assignment.

Also, if none of the following prompts are your cup of tea and/or you already had an idea for one of my requests, that's totally fine! Or, if a prompt/freeform from a different fandom or character/ship request seems fun, go with it! While I like all these ideas, I'm not married to any of them. Pretty much anything that focuses on these characters/relationships will be a delight!

Thanks in advance and see you on the other side!

Requests: Crazy Rich Asians Series - Kevin Kwan, A League of Their Own, Letterkenny, Pitch, Schitt's Creek, Tortall - Tamora Pierce

Yes, Please!
  • missing scenes and filling in the blanks from canon
  • parallels and canon callbacks
  • x + 1 times
  • AUs (please see No, Thanks! for exceptions)
    • especially canon-divergence or if they’re a little weird but canon-adjacent (ie: body swaps, unexpected telepathic connections, time loops, etc.) or fusions (ie: daemon AUs, Pacific Rim, Hogwarts, in space!, etc.)
  • characters in their element/competence
  • alternatively, I do love a good fish out of water scenario
  • loyalty and ride or die friendships
  • complex friendship dynamics
  • found families and/or family feels and/or complex family situations
  • team bonding/group dynamics
  • mutual admiration societies/positive partnerships
    • I love snark and teasing and even outright antagonism, too, they just have to end up liking each other—even grudgingly
  • pre-relationship stuff and getting together
  • slow burns and UST
    • especially combined with mutual pining and Reasons™ for not being together
  • [enemies to] friends to lovers
    • I’m all about snarky antagonism/teasing as flirting
  • all the ridiculous, over the top, romantic tropes
    • ie: friends with benefits turning to something more; "needing" to share a bed; secret relationships; mutual pining; weird enforced proximity (ie handcuffed together, locked in a closet, deserted together, strange curses/spells); everyone thinks we’re dating and we’re not. what are we missing?; meddling friends; "Oops, we kissed/slept together/did something unmistakeably romantic. We definitely shouldn't do that again..."; secret identities (à la You’ve Got Mail)
      • actually, if Nora Ephron wrote about it, I love it
  • HEA or HFN

Visual/Art-specific likes
  • Meta art, if that makes sense?
    • The design of a character's work ID or baseball card, snapshots they might've taken, or a peek inside someone's bedroom/bag/social media accounts/whatever.
  • costume porn of any kind
  • food porn and cooking/baking
  • floral prints/flowers are always a plus, as well as any other natural elements
  • Essentially, though, I am not picky.
    • I like all kinds of artistic styles and color palettes and both digital manips and traditional media and am overall very prepared to be impressed by anything you make!
    • If anything from the above likes or the following fic prompts inspires you, run with it!

No, Thanks!
  • pregnancy and non-canonical babies or kids; children who exist in canon are fine to include
  • soulmates and/or a/b/o AUs
  • incest
  • infidelity
  • graphic violence
    • ie: assault, gore, abuse, etc.
    • injuries that have occurred in canon are fine to mention
  • non-canonical character death (unless prompted)
  • rape, non- or dubcon

Requests
As a note: All of my requests are for in-universe works. If you'd like to incorporate more traditional fic/narrative elements as part of your work, that's absolutely fine, but really feel free to lean into the unusual formats as much as you can!

Crazy Rich Asians Series
characters/relationships: Rachel Chu, Astrid Leong, Kitty Pong, Rachel Chu & Astrid Leong & Kitty Pong, Colin Khoo/Araminta Lee

I absolutely adore these books. (And the movie! It was gorgeous and over-the-top and pretty much everything I wanted it to be!) I love me a good rom-com, and these are that and more. There’s so much information and backstory packed into them, things that never even get discussed, that even after three books I’m sure there’s still a ton of this world left to explores. The narrative voice of these books is one of the best things about it; the footnotes and insider point of view add a really fascinating dimension to everything. The way the catty gossip of this world has sunk into the actual telling of the story and colors the way we perceive the characters and their relationships with one another raises so many interesting possibilities.

If there are other characters that you want to include, I'm more than happy to see them. There were far too many great possibilities to even think about nominating them all. Part of the reason I love these books so much is because of the intricate web of relationships between everyone; the more the merrier. I'm also fine with the inclusion of any other canon characters/relationships or Astrid/Kitty (in which case, I'd prefer amicable breakups with Charlie and Jack Bing). Last, if you'd like to set your assignment in the movie universe, I'd be okay with that! However, I really like the character development and arcs that are featured in the books, and would be thrilled to see those details in a movie!verse fic.

Rachel and/or Astrid and/or Kitty
    Email Chain
    • Whether these emails are sent pre-canon—Rachel's correspondence with her department or students, Astrid's philanthropic work, or back and forths with Kitty's agent or talent scouts—or after the books have ended when they all technically have business interests together, I'm so intrigued in seeing how these characters communicate, with one another as well as anyone else who crosses their path.
Group Text or Text Message Conversation
    • My wants for this are much the same as the emails, but with a less formal/professional bent? I could see Astrid never getting that into texting and Kitty being an absolute menace with emojis while Rachel finds the happy medium. Whatever/whoever—petty grievances from the neighbors? setting up appointments with an atelier? discussing the renovations to Tyersall Park?—they're texting, I would be delighted to see what you come up with
    Inter-Office Memos
    • Admittedly, I see this more for all three of them than the individual characters, though memos from Rachel's academic life or studio memos from Kitty's time in Hong Kong or the memos about what kind of hell would rain down on the staff if Astrid's picture winds up in magazines, would also be great! For all three of them, maybe they've all been put on the same charitable board or are more hands-on in the running of Tyersall Park?
    Institutional Incident Report
    • Honestly, I don't have any concrete prompts for this one, but I just have to imagine with Kitty Pong around, there are always bound to be incidents worth reporting.
    Investigative Report
    • I'm sure there were plenty of investigations—though whether they were ever published is another story—about Rachel and Kitty when they first arrived on the scene; the ones about Astrid and her background definitely never saw the light of day.
    Paperwork
    • Any kind of paperwork you'd like to create—Rachel's applications to academic conferences or Astrid's business papers or Kitty's plans and agreements in her quest to get her daughter back or some kind of document that they've all had to draft together or something completely different—would be amazing!
    Speech
    • Each of these characters have got to have such distinct oratory styles, but they're all practiced public speakers, and I'd love to see what any of them have to say. Does Kitty tweak the monologues she's given? What other charitable causes does Astrid support? How does Rachel dumb down her econ lectures for freshmen vs fellow professors? What kind of disaster (or surprising success) is the speech they have to give together for [insert whatever event you feel like]?

Colin/Araminta
    Blind Item
    • What was the buzz in Singapore’s official gossip circles when Colin and Araminta started dating? Was it more or less accurate than what all those pretty, young things were circulating themselves? What kind of coverage did they get as their relationship progressed?
Magazine Article or Cover or Spread
    • ny kind of coverage for these two would be awesome to see—a bridal magazine covering the big day, an entertainment story about one of Asia’s biggest names falling in love, something more staid as they grow up and settle into their lives together, or something completely different. I like the actors from the movie, but feel free to cast other people if you want!
    Meeting Notes
    • There must have been so many meetings they sat through in the run-up to the wedding. Not just the planning of it all, but the legal and social aspects, too. Did Colin pass along notes to Araminta to keep himself sane? Did she write anything back, or was she too focused on putting together the wedding of the century?
Social Media Posts and Private Messages
    • So, what’s the haute new Singaporean social media platform, or are they traditionalists in this (if nothing else)? How different are their public posts from their private messages? Does Araminta even run her official Instagram, or does she have a finsta that she uses to pretty much just follow Colin? Does Colin forget he actually has a Twitter account most days? Who leaves the borderline corny comments/replies on the other's posts?
    Tabloid Article
    • I’m sure there are all kinds of ridiculous stories—secret love children, fights that put them on the brink of divorce, cheating scandals, etc.—as well as the more mundane things—Stars! They’re just like us!—that get thrown around in the press about these two, and I would love to see anything that you come up with!
    Text Message Conversation
    • A lot of these are about the public lives these two lead, or the public lives that people think they’re leading, but I’d also love to see the conversations that they have just for themselves. Does Araminta send him silly pictures from her photoshoots? Does Colin text all through boring board meetings? What kind of shorthand or routines have they developed for themselves?

A League of Their Own
characters/relationships: Dottie Hinson & Kit Keller, Dottie Hinson/Jimmy Dugan

This is one of my absolute favorite movies, and it pretty much always has been. Between the setting (homefront America is right in my history wheelhouse, and I'd adore any details you throw in on that end) and the writing ("Get these wild animals away from me! Haven't you ever heard of a leash?!") and the baseball (it's basically the only sport I like and understand), there's nothing not to love about it. Plus all three of these characters are so great, and there are so many different dynamics between all of them that would make for great fic fodder. All the love and anger and history between Dottie and Kit, sisters and teammates, is just begging for exploration. And I've always been a sucker Dottie and Jimmy's relationship arc—from mutual disdain to grudging respect to friendship to simmering UST—and can't get enough of it.

Note: This is the one canon where you can ignore my non-canonical character death DNW, for Bob specifically. Much as I want Dottie and Jimmy to get together, I don't want her to cheat on Bob to do it. However their relationship ends, though, is up to you. Or maybe it never happened. Or don't bother mentioning Bob at all, and we can all assume what we want. Also, I'd prefer a light touch if you decide to address the less nostalgic realities of the time. There's no need to idealize the 1940s; mentions of period-typical sexism, homophobia, racism, etc. are more than fine to include, but I'd rather they don't become the point of the fic. I'd also be more than happy if any other canon characters make appearances.

freeforms+prompts
    Advertisement
    • Before the league really hit its stride, I'm sure Mr. Harvey and Mr. Lowenstein traded heavily on Jimmy's name to draw crowds. What did those early ads look like and how did they change once they found their Queen of Diamonds and her kid sister? If you like, I'd also love to see what kinds of "improvements" (it's probably more of a defacement when Kit always gives Dottie a mustache, though) Dottie or Jimmy or Kit might have made to these ads.
    Baseball Card Design
    • I'd love to see some kind of old-timey baseball card for any of these characters! Did Jimmy Dugan get a rookie card or was he more of a late bloomer? Which was the first card for Kit that didn't mention anything about her sister? Was it hard gettting Dottie to sit down for her portrait, and the picture shows it?
    Documentary Transcript
    • Someone must have talked to the original Rockford Peaches for some kind of documentary about the league, though whether anyone recognized how special these teams were contemporarily or they had to wait for their recognition is up for debate. Either way, what do these characters have to say about each other and the game? How hard did they try to keep their personal attachments out of the interviews?
    History Book
    • There are plenty of histories on baseball as a game, and even a few on the AAGPBL, and I'd love to see how Dottie and Kit, and even Jimmy, fit into that kind of scholarship. Was one of them notoriously hard to get a hold of? Who never answered the actual questions at hand, but had the best details about the day-to-day realities of the teams? Who decided to write their own book?
    Interviews
    • Either from their time playing/coaching or long after the fact, I'm sure all of these characters had plenty to say, even if it wasn't necessarily what their interviewer wanted to hear.
    Magazine or Newspaper Article
    • Maybe it's coverage from one of their games or more of a lifestyle piece? There are bits of this in the movie, but what do reporters make of these women and/or their washed-up manager? Are they flattering, or does it take time to work up to truly admiring them?
    Museum Exhibit Brochure
    • I'd love to see something that goes along with the Baseball Hall of Fame's exhibit from the end of the movie—descriptions of photographs and displays that we actually see would be super cool!—or an exhibit from something like the Rockford Historical Society with completely made up exhibits. Did they get any of the past players/staff to contribute an excerpt?
    Scrapbook Page(s)
    • I am an enthusiastic if largely undisciplined scrapbooker, so I was delighted to see this freeform! Kit and Jimmy don't strike me as the type, but maybe Dottie's got a lot of time on her hands when she goes back to Oregon. Or maybe her kids put something together for her later on. Whichever way you go, I would love to see the final product!

Letterkenny
character/relationship: Katy/Reilly/Jonesy, Katy/Bonnie McMurray, Wayne & Katy & Daryl & Squirrelly Dan

This show is such a strange, little delight. I've watched it so many times, and every time have found something new and ridiculous to overthink and obsess over. The high (and so, so low) drama of small town life, the rhythm and (pitter) patter of the dialogue, and the way this oddball cast of characters fit together are just a few of the things that I can't get enough of. Everything about it is so insanely specific, but, at the same time, even a person who's never been to rural Ontario (AKA: me) can relate to these weirdos' lives. (Not that much, though; thankfully, degens from upcountry don't figure that much into my everyday problems.)

I love all of these characters and relationships (as well as Katy/Reilly/Jonesy/Bonnie if that's something you'd like to combine). Katy's dynamic with Jonesy and Reilly—mostly exasperated affection—is so different from her unbridled lust for Bonnie, but they're both so good for drawing out that hidden soft center of Katy's. And how can I not love the Hicks? While I absolutely love the way everyone talks in Letterkenny, I understand that it's not the easiest thing to replicate. I'd love something that captures the tone of the show, but don't feel like whatever you write needs to imitate it exactly. Also, feel free to include any other Letterkennyans (Letterkennyites?) and canon relationships (I also like Wayne/Daryl) in supporting roles.

Katy/Reilly/Jonesy or Katy/Bonnie
    Advice Column
    • Someone in town must have taken it upon themselves to set up shop as the local advice maven, right? (Is it Gail? I feel like it could be Gail. Or Glen.) Do Reilly and/or Jonesy write in when they're trying to win Katy back or when Katy's decided to only date one of them and they miss each other? Does Katy ask about how to deal with her lust for Bonnie? What exactly does Bonnie want help with?
    Baseball Card Design
    • For Reilly and Jonesy, this could definitely be their hockey card, if whale-shit hockey players with just one team W even get a trading card, that is. Which could go along with Katy or Bonnie's rec softball card, even if they don't have regulation uniforms.
    Dating App Profile
    • I think it's pretty hilarious that this tiny town's got such a lively crowd on Tinder, but it also makes a lot of sense. Can't wait around for big city slams all the time, can they? So, what do these people put on their profiles? How's their flirt game?
Group Text or Text Message Conversation
    • How different is the rhythm of conversation via text for these guys? Do they have different in-jokes or quirks compared to when they talk in person? What's important enough that they have to text each other rather than wait until they see them next at Modean's?
    Instagram Feed
    • This is super basic, but I'd love to see what any or all of these characters think is important enough to put on their Instagram accounts. Does Bonnie do a lot of outfits of the day with Katy? Approximately what percentage of Reilly and Jonesy's feed was taken at the gym? How effective are Katy's thirst traps?
    Podcast Transcript
    • I could see Reilly and Jonesy starting up their own podcast, though I'm not sure I can see them managing to keep it going for very long. What do they talk about? What do they have to promise Katy and/or Bonnie to get them to be guests?
Social Media Posts and Private Messages
    • Aside from Fartbook, does Letterkenny have any other local social media hubs? Or do they mostly stick to the usual suspects after that failed experiment? How do they flirt and tease and bother one another and does it work or backfire?

Wayne & Katy & Daryl & Squirrelly Dan
    Advertisement
    • What does an ad for the farm or the farm stand end up looking like? Is it tasteful or more of a horse by committee? Do all the Hicks get to be featured, or is there a fight about it should really just be Katy and Wayne since it is their farm, so their pig?
    Conspiracy Theories
    • In a town as small as Letterkenny, where everyone knows everyone, there still have to be a few mysteries. What kind of theories do the Hicks come up with about their neighbors? What theories get thrown around about them?
    Folktale
    • I could absolutely see Wayne becoming some kind of folk hero a few years down the line, and would love to see what roles the others play in that kind of story. Alternatively, maybe they're all hanging around the farm stand one day, and talk turns to local urban legends.
    Group Text
    • Once they finally convince everyone to get a smartphone (on that note, who's the holdout?), I have to imagine their group chat is pretty much never quiet. Does it become an issue when they start texting when they're all sitting together at the farm stand?
    Institutional Incident Report
    • I'm not saying the farm stand is an institution (though in Letterkenny, it might qualify), but I am saying that these characters would absolutely go to the effort of making an actual form so they can write each other up just for the sake of a joke.
    Letters to the Editor
    • Who even is the editor of the Letterkenny paper? I don't know, but that wouldn't stop these guys from writing in when they've got a bee in their bonnet about something—eg. the protests against the newest iteration of Modean's, the preservation of the Ag Hall, the latest mayhem brought on by the skids.
    Meeting Minutes
    • Maybe Mrs. McMurray can't make it to an Ag Hall meeting, so Katy gets dragged in to take the minutes while Wayne, Dary, and Dan try to actually get something done and she's making things even more difficult than usual? Or maybe they each take their own personal minutes because McMurray is never accurately reflected in the official version.
    Memes
    • What a Letterkenny-specific meme looks like, I couldn't say, but I still want to see them. Did the latest grow out of some embarrassment that no one is gonna let die? Or is it from outside the Hicks' immediate circle that they pick up and play along with?

Pitch
character/relationship: Ginny Baker, Livan Duarte, Mike Lawson, Blip Sanders, Ginny Baker/Mike Lawson, Ginny Baker/Livan Duarte/Mike Lawson

I can't remember the last time I fell for a show so hard, so fast, or so permanently. Though, in retrospect, this was always a show I was basically guaranteed to love; girl-power narrative with lots of great supporting relationships, grumpy/gruff bearded dude with heart eyes for his rookie, and it's all about baseball? Yeah, I was a goner before I ever saw an episode. But then it was actually good, too? Each and every one of these characters is so well-written, complex and compelling, and they are the heartbeat of this show. I love that the underlying principle of it all was so optimistic, too, while leaving room for realism. The two aren't mutually exclusive, and I really liked the interplay between this idealism—that a woman can make it in MLB—and the realities of the kind of struggles she'd face.

Honestly, anything for these characters or ships is more than welcome. My desire for more of this show knows no bounds. If you want to put in lots of baseball details, I would absolutely love that, but if it's not your bag, I'm all for an exploration of these dynamics on any backdrop. Also, any other canon characters/relationships you want to include are completely welcome! Same for mentions of past relationships, though I'd like them to remain that: just mentions. Feel free to combine requests, too!

freeforms+prompts
Ginny, Livan, Mike, Blip, Ginny
    Advertisement
    • There are so many promotional events that baseball players have to put up with for their club, from the theme nights to the charity work to the new photoshoots every season, and I'd love to see what even one of them looks like! Or maybe how one of Ginny's Nike or Mike's UnderArmour ad campaigns (or whatever endorsement deal Blip or Livan has) turns out.
    Baseball Card Design
    • This one's pretty straightforward; I'd love to see any kind of baseball card—from their rookie season, their time in the minors, an All-Star appearance, their final season, etc. etc.—for any of these characters! What gets put into the mini bio or the fun facts? What are their stats like?
    Court Documents
    • While I'm totally up for any actual legal proceedings these people are involved in, I would really love to see what kind of documentation goes along with Kangaroo Court. As bailiff, does Blip have to keep track of everyone's offenses and the corresponding fines? Does Mike make sure his judgments are faithfully recorded for posterity? Are objections logged, or who gets this privilege revoked for complaining too much?
    Documentary Transcript
    • Has Ken Burns decided to expand his Baseball series or did the Padres/Ginny get their own 30 for 30 on ESPN or something for their local sports channel or an actual, full-length feature? What do they all have to say about their careers? What do they talk around? How far removed from the game are they when these documentaries are filmed?
    Institutional By-Laws
    • While I don't think the Padres by-laws are binding in any sense, but there has to be some guideline for what can get you brought up on charges in Kangaroo Court. Maybe some of these laws have very specific origins or are named after specific players?
Magazine Article or Cover or Spread
    • Feel free to go wild with which magazine they're featured in—more of that Body Issue? Ginny gets a Vogue cover? Mike and his weird house are covered in Architectural Digest? Livan joins other Cuban expats for an article on their experiences in MLB? Blip's spread in the official Padres magazine?—because I'd love to see any of them!
    Merchandise
    • So, what does Ginny's bobblehead end up looking like? I'd love to see any of these characters in bobblehead or plush or school supply (are those plastic lunchboxes still a thing?) form. Feel free to go wild with this one!
    Twitter Thread
    • Baseball twitter is such a wild place, and I'm sure none of these characters would be exempt from it. Ginny's got Eliot to cover her responsibilities, but I fel like she must take the reins sometimes, right? What is a big (or annoying) enough deal for her, or any of these characters, to do so?

Ginny/Mike or Ginny/Livan/Mike
Blind Item or Clickbait or Tabloid Article
    • Even before they get together, I have to imagine there's all kinds of speculation about Ginny and Mike (and Livan). Does that speculation change at all once they do get together, or does no one actually notice?
Group Text or Text Message Conversation
    • Do they try to keep it professional, discussing lineups and pitch sequencing, or is it flirt city, just subtle enough for plausible deniability, in their texts? Maybe a little of both?
    Interviews
    • They've all got to talk to the press all the time, there must be so many moments where they nearly (or straight-up do) give themselves away. Some possibilities: Mike waxes poetic about Ginny or is markedly thawing towards Livan, Livan is downright flirtatious when Lawson or Baker interrupt, or Ginny keeps her lips sealed, but that doesn't keep the interviewer from asking their leading questions.
    Podcast/Radio Broadcast
    • If you want to do an actual recording for this one, that would be awesome, but I would be just as happy with a transcript of some sort! I'm not sure which player's in charge of the official insider podcast, but I'm sure they, like the official radio broadcaster, get Ginny or Mike or Livan on at some point. And the podcast would get to ask much more personal questions since they share a clubhouse every day. I'd love to see something where it's hard to deny what a big soft spot they've got for each other, even if they haven't gotten together yet.
    In-Universe RPF
    • What's the state of the the San Diego Padres tag in the Pitch Universe? Which ship is most popular? (It's Mike/Livan, isn't it?) What things do fic writers get so, so wrong (or uncomfortably right as the case may be)?
    Travelogue
    • They are on the road so often during the season—and probably do a bit of traveling in the offseason—I'd be really interested to see what these characters have to say about it and one another. Who's a nightmare about flying? Who likes going off the beaten path in whatever city they're in? Who likes being in a new place every few days?
    Voicemail
    • I'm not saying this needs to be a drunk dial situation, but I would love to know what these characters say to one another through the filter of a little too much to drink. Alternatively, what do millennials (Mike's borderline, I know) actually bother to call each other about? Is it all business, or can we track the development of their relationship(s) through these messages? For this one, I'm more than happy with a transcript of the call.

Schitt's Creek
character/relationship: Any; Stevie Budd, Alexis Rose, David Rose, Moira Rose, Johnny Rose, Alexis Rose & David Rose, David Rose & Stevie Budd, Johnny Rose & Moira Rose & David Rose & Alexis Rose, Patrick Brewer/David Rose

This show hits me right in so many of my favorite narrative tropes. For one, it's absolutely hilarious; witty and sharp and more than a little mean, but it hardly matters because they're all terrible anyway. For another, it has such amazing character development. Watching the Roses go from selfish—but entertaining as hell—monsters to actual, productive members of a society is such a delight because the show doesn't really pull many of its punches. In the early seasons, I wanted them to fail almost as much as I wanted them to succeed, which is such a fun place to watch from; no matter what happens, it's a satisfying outcome. That said, now that most of them have become actual human beings, it's much more fun to root for, rather than against, them.

If you want to include other characters, that's totally great! I'm always up for more of the various citizens of Schitt's Creek. (I'd prefer Roland in fairly small doses, but he can be such an excellent source of conflict.) The same goes for canon relationships, though I also like Alexis/Twyla. I'm caught up with all of season 5, but if you haven't watched that season yet, don't spoil yourself for this!

freeforms+prompts
    Complaint Form
    • That customer complaint Moira gets cannot possibly be the only one the motel has ever gotten, right? Were David and Alexis filling up the suggestion box when the family first moved in? What’s Stevie’s standard operating procedure for these things (aside from crumpling it up and throwing it away)? Is there any complaint that even Johnny agrees is ridiculous?
    Employee [Self-]Evaluation
    • Johnny absolutely institutes employee evaluations at the motel, and I can see it going so, so poorly. Or maybe Patrick’s trying to figure out a way to tell David that there are a few things that need to change around the store, and decides this would be the best way to do it. Or Alexis has to evaluate herself as a receptionist at the clinic? There are so many ways this could go, and I’d love to see any (or all!) of them.
    Episode Recap of In-Universe Media
    • So, what was the critically reviewed, limited reality series A Little Bit Alexis like? What did the recapper have to say about this glimpse into the Rose family and/or Alexis’s adventures? (And was that recapper David?) Alternatively, I’d love to see a recap of an episode of Sunrise Bay or any of Moira’s other projects—either ones she’s mentioned in the show or something entirely new! Does the recapper have Opinions™ on Moira’s oeuvre, and how does this latest installment stack up?
Group Text or Text Message Conversation
    • I’m just imagining that the Rose-Family-plus-friends-and-loved-ones (and also maybe Roland somehow snuck his way in?) group chat has to be ridiculous and petty.
    Interviews
    • There are so many reasons for any of these people to have been interviewed—eg: Johnny when he was giving Blockbuster and Mr. Movie a run for their money, Moira for any of her projects, David by some pretentious art magazine when he opened his gallery, Alexis by multiple clandestine agencies probably, Stevie or Patrick for the local paper’s business section. Whatever your take, I’d love to see it!
    Meeting Minutes
    • Whether it’s a town council meeting that the family or locals crashes to push their own interests or it’s an Official Rose Family meeting—plus who decided that it was so official that actual minutes had to be taken and then who got stuck with the job?—I’d love to know what warrants a spot on the agenda and how long it takes to resolve everything.
    Website
    • What does the website for the Rosebud Motel end up looking like? Or maybe the one for Rose Apothecary? Maybe Moira’s professional website or the blog that Alexis maybe definitely hasn’t updated since 2009? Or something completely different that these characters would use on a regular basis would be great!

Tortall - Tamora Pierce
character/relationship: Keladry of Mindelan, Miache

I first read the Alanna books when I was a kid, and then proceeded to devour the subsequent series. Every so often, I go back and reread them all, and I honestly still love them as much as that first time I read them. Obviously, I have never grown out of girl-power narratives, and at this point, I definitely don't intend to, haha. I absolutely imprinted hard on Kel, and love her to this day. I've also been so intrigued by the short mention that Miache and Zefrem get in Lioness Rampant since I first read it, and I've always wanted a fuller accounting of her exploits. Basically, anything that gives me more of either of these characters is going to be a delight!

Really, anything that explores these characters (or others! I'd be more than happy for other familiar faces from Tortall to show up!) would be such a delight. If you create something for Miache, you can give Zefrem as large a role as you like—either as her partner in crime or romantically—or set your work before she's met him. I don't have any hard and fast ships for Kel, but I do have a soft spot for Kel/Dom and Kel/Yuki. Also, I haven't really followed or kept track of what Tamora Pierce has said about these books post-publishing, so feel free to ignore or embrace whatever you like on that front.

    Folktale
    • For either of these characters, I’d love to read some kind of traditional folktale about their deeds. How many decades does it take for Kel to become a legend in her own right, and how much does it resemble the truth? Did Miache hear stories about her own exploits even when she was alive, and how did they differ from the story that exists in the Song of the Lioness?
    Song Lyrics or Song/Composition
    • For real, what kind of songs get written about the Protector of the Small and how many similarities do they bear to the actual Keladry of Mindelan? Are these songs only written by famous bards or did some of her slightly more musical friends compose music to go with Neal’s awful poetry specifically to embarrass her? As for Miache, though I feel like she would take the artistic liberties less in stride, I would love to see/hear some kind of folk ballad or even a “modern” (by Tortallan standards) take on her tale. What parts of her story get emphasized to fit particular periods or where a song comes from? How big of a difference is there between songs from Tortall or Maren or Carthak
    Travelogue
    • Both Kel and Miache have seen a lot of the world as far as we know (and have probably seen even more that was never covered in any of the books), but their adventures were never about the travel itself, which I think is too bad. Maybe it’s a job/assignment in a new destination or a leisure trip somewhere familiar, but I’d really love to see some recounting that shifts the narrative focus from the purpose of their voyages to the trip itself.
    Work of Fiction
    • There have to be hundreds of versions—from bedtime stories for kids to romanticized novels to sensationalized pulp fiction—of these women’s stories, and I would be so excited to read excerpts from one (or many!) of them.
