Pinch hits are participants who are without creators; pinch hitting is the practice of volunteering to make a gift for a pinch hit. We'd like to have it filled before creator reveals to make sure this participant receives their gift(s) with the rest of the exchange!

Fic In A Box has a very unusual set of assignment requirements: everyone is owed (and is asking for) 10k of fanfiction, which by default can be given as one 10k+ fic or several 1k+ fics. Participants have also had the option to opt-in to other minimum lengths or to other formats of fanwork. The other fanwork mediums are given word count equivalents, which you can view on the medium ruleset post.

In order to pick up a pinch hit you need to either email us or comment on this post (comments are screened) with:

The amount of wordcount you would like to claim (even if you're going to do fanart or some other non-fic opt-in medium! If you aren't sure what the equivalent would be, we'd be happy to help you convert it!)
The exact username of the AO3 account you will be posting your fill(s) from (if you post from a different account from the one you give us, we won't be able to count the PH as filled unless you update us!)
An email where we can reach you (you might not be getting the AO3 assignment when you pick up a PH, so we need to know where to send the assignment!)

Reveals!

Works have revealed! Creator reveals will be on December 20th at 10 pm EST (countdown).

Reading lists will be posted in the afternoon EST from December ~~8th~~ 9th to December 19th, with a schedule going up by the 8th! These are, essentially, every work in the collection (unless the creator has opted out) at least once split out by length and medium. They will be posted at this tag (link), where you can see past year's reading lists as well!

You can still post late treats! The collection will be moderated until Creator Reveals, and then left open and unmoderated after that, so there's no deadline on treating! If you're looking for people to treat, head to the following two places:

If there are any issues or anything that we can help with, please contact us asap! We did check everyone's gifts for the basics (fandom, relationship tag, medium, and length), but checking never catches everything so even if it's something we would have checked we may have missed it.

All Works Are In!

All pinch hits have been turned in, so we're on track to reveal tomorrow December 6th at 10 PM EST (countdown)!

Reminder:

The collection will be briefly closing to new works at 9PM EST, it will reopen at 10PM EST after reveals!
If you have any notes to the mods that you don't want to go live, remember to remove them.
You'll be able to edit all the way up until 10PM, even while the collection is closed.
Do not delete an approved work without telling the mods immediately. This includes treats or if you're replacing an approved work with a new one! If our work count is off, especially close to reveals, nothing will reveal until we identify the missing work.

Pinch Hitter Requests!

Some of the PHers who are making reveals happen are creators who are not signed up for the exchange, and some of them have posted requests for treats! There are currently 19 requests, 6 of which have at least one gift! There is no deadline for giving PHer gifts!

Reading Lists

Every year we do Reading Lists, which are lists of every work in the exchange separated by length and medium! Reading lists will likely begin in the afternoon of the 8th EST, and we'll post a schedule either on the 7th or 8th!

Default deadline

The deadline for a simple default on Yuletide is 9pm UTC on 10 December - just under one week from now. Please check the link - this isn't the same time of day as recent years.

The default deadline is the cut-off point for defaulting on your Yuletide assignment without a penalty. This applies if it's your first Yuletide, or if you posted successfully last time you signed up or took a pinch hit. Default before this time, and you're free to sign up again in future. If you're not sure whether the default deadline applies to you, please talk to mods (yuletideadmin@gmail.com).

When we open sign-ups, we recommend that you don't sign up unless you're confident you can write a story by the deadline. AFK post

We will also put up an Away from Keyboard post shortly on the

yuletide comm. The purpose of this post is that if people know they won't be able to respond to their gift until late in the anon period, or even until the new year, they can let their author know ahead of time. (Not being able to read and respond until several days after the collection opens is normal, though - many people will have family and other obligations!)
